The Institute

Reputation is recognised increasingly as a critical determinant of a company’s ability to achieve its commercial goals, and an asset which must be managed actively.

This comes at a time when companies are facing disruption to their established ways of working and communicating, on an unprecedented scale and at a pace of change never seen before.

The Institute was established to help companies identify:

  1. Where reputation determines company value;
  2. The audiences who are critical to a company’s reputation;
  3. The journey required for a company to close the gap between where its reputation is today, and where it needs to be to support business objectives;
  4. The capabilities required to navigate this journey successfully.

Now recognised as an international centre of excellence in the theory and practice of strategic reputation management, our clients turn to us to address the most difficult and intractable questions in relation to reputation and trust.

At its simplest, we have two areas of focus:

  1. Reputation strategies: We help companies make the right strategic choices, and set priorities, in order to determine reputation strategies that unlock value.
  2. Capability building: We help the same companies to shape the capabilities – organisational, functional, and personal leadership skills– to deliver these strategies with winning outcomes.

How do we do this?

Setting strategies that promote and protect reputation:

  • Addressing core strategic choices;
  • Defining narrative and positioning (identifying the winning space to occupy, and using evidence to inform business critical decisions);

Determining and shaping the capabilities needed to deliver these:

  • Organisational – how reputation strategy is embedded in a company’s purpose and structure;
  • Functional – how the Corporate Affairs function is designed and resourced to help a business to deliver reputation strategy; benchmarking the talent needed to staff the function, and creating competency frameworks;
  • Leadership skills – leadership coaching to deliver winning narratives and manage high stakes conversations.

All of our reputation consultancy is informed by evidence, data, innovation and insights, including a unique proprietary research programme into the essence of world class corporate affairs functions, developed over nearly 15 years.
